Why Pink & Blues?

So it looks a little strange to call this site "Blues & News" while selecting the lovely PINK background. I couldn't resist. I love pink. So much of webland seems to be blue. So when I saw the pink background template, that was the one I chose. Besides, I really don't have any "blues" to sing about. (Unless it would be how slowly some of K-12 education is embracing emerging technologies - if you've heard one expert say it then you've heard a hundred say - "the students are leading the charge!" They're way ahead of us. I'd be curious to see how many students on average, in a typical 6-12 classroom, have their own "blog" site. Time for data collection . . .

Blogging in the Classroom

Well, this will be exciting to see whether any teachers are interested in taking this on. I remember when students in sixth grade were reading Hatchet, or Margaret Petersen Haddix's "Running Out of Time" (one of my favorites!) I couldn't wait to see their journals and what they were thinking about the characters and the story, what connections they were making to their own lives.

But what a pain to lug home all those journals! I had two big bags reserved just for the honor of carting journals home! My family would groan when I walked through the door with "the BAGS!" The thought of being able to just go to a student's blog site and get their thoughts in "real-time" is pretty exciting!
